Nature is written in rivers and mountains, books are written in words - both deserve a second life.

Born in the Westfjords of Iceland, Fjordic was inspired by a love of nature and a commitment to sustainability. Globally, hundreds of millions of books are thrown away annually - pages filled with stories, history, and beauty. From this, an idea was born: to upcycle damaged or discarded books and give their pages a second life as unique, eco-friendly works of art.

The sustainable choice for art prints

Many art prints rely on newly manufactured paper and cartridge inks, giving them a far greater environmental impact than they appear. From tree harvesting to global shipping, each stage adds to the carbon footprint of a traditional print.Fjordic takes a different approach. By printing on rescued vintage book pages and using eco-friendly Epson EcoTank inks, we give existing materials a new life instead of creating new waste - reducing CO₂e emissions by an estimated 95-98% per print compared to conventional methods.

Who are we?

Fjordic is a tiny print studio run by biologists Jonathan and Sigurlaug, formally established in 2025, but our story began a few years earlier. During the covid pandemic, we left behind “big city life” in Reykjavík with our then one-year-old daughter to spend a year in the Westfjords town of Bolungarvík. We were welcomed instantly by the warm local community and simultaneously stunned by the landscape around us - impossibly steep mountains on every side and humpback whales breaching in the fjord outside our bedroom windows. After settling in, we began noticing small but meaningful examples of how community and sustainability shape daily life. One of them was an initiative called Nytjagámur, which invited residents to leave unwanted items for others to reclaim. As newcomers eager to decorate our own bare walls, we found ourselves drawn to the worn-out books left behind. What if they could become something more? What began as a simple way to upcycle forgotten pages into art for our home eventually grew into something greater. A few years after returning to Reykjavík, we wondered whether others might enjoy these prints as much as we did - and that question became the spark that led to Fjordic. Our mission is to breathe new life into existing materials, reduce waste wherever possible, and create art that’s as kind to our planet as it is beautiful on your wall.
